Cynthia A. Kohanek 

A native to Miami, Florida; Cynthia Kohanek exemplifies the title of Music Educator. She has brought her passion and knowledge of music to learners of all ages. Cynthia has served as the Music Specialist at Pinecrest Elementary for the past 24 years, where she has taught Kindergarten through 5th grade and runs an after-school music program that encompasses an orchestra and chorus program. Cynthia believes in the mission of bringing community together through music making, which she has exhibited in the Village of Pinecrest. She was recognized for her contributions in 2012 by being awarded a Proclamation. She has served as Assistant Director/Conductor of the Miami Children's Chorus, where she directed the Intermediate and Beginning Choirs. With this notable organization, in which she sang with, she has had the vast opportunity to tour internationally, serve in underserved communities; and prepare young singers for professional opera productions for the Florida Grand Opera. She brought her talents to the largest stage as she prepared young singers to sing alongside recording artist Queen Latifah for Super Bowl XLIV Pregame Show. Cynthia ran a successful voice studio for over 20 years and served as an Adjunct Professor of Music at Florida International University. Cynthia's love for performing is considerable, but her truest passion lies in bringing the power of music to others and encouraging them to find their own inner talent and confidence.
